Why I Love The Four Agreements & The Mastery of Love

Two of my all-time favorite self-help reads are “The Four Agreements” and “The Mastery of Love”, both by Don Miguel Ruiz. These aren’t your typical, out-there self-help books. They feel cozy and uplifting, with a generous dose of personal growth. I could revisit them endlessly without ever losing interest.

“The Four Agreements” encourages personal freedom from the limiting beliefs and agreements we make with ourselves and others that lead to unhappiness. At its core, it’s about discovering your own integrity, self-love, and peace by letting go of the need to fix everyone else’s problems. Don Miguel Ruiz has appeared on Oprah, so if you doubt his talent, trust the queen of talk herself!

The Four Agreements are:

Be Impeccable With Your Word.
Don’t Take Anything Personally.
Don’t Make Assumptions.
Always Do Your Best.

He continued the journey with “The Fifth Agreement”, which came out in 2010.

In “The Mastery of Love”, readers learn to heal emotional wounds, reclaim the freedom and joy that are our birthright, and bring back the playfulness essential to loving relationships. It’s not only about mending relationships with others—it’s about nurturing the relationship you have with yourself.

Both books are quick reads, and revisiting them multiple times is rewarding. I hope you find as much joy in them as I have!
